Helicopter Awareness Courses
In 2010 the Helicopter Task Group ran a series of extremely well received Helicopter Safety Awareness Courses with the support of the helicopter operators. Due to the success and huge demand, the HSSG gave its support to the continuation of these well-received courses.
The idea is to provide a learning opportunity for offshore personnel, including safety representatives, who would like to find out more about offshore flight operations and safety. The full day courses run by pilots and technicians from each of the helicopter operators and cover flight operations, maintenance, a hangar visit and an open question session. There is also an opportunity to talk with the pilots and technicians to raise any questions or concerns they or their colleagues offshore may have.
Handouts are provided to help delegates discuss what they have learnt with their colleagues when they return offshore, covering:
Dates for forthcoming Helicopter Awareness Courses will be announced at the Step Change News and Events section and through Oil & Gas UK events.

The following presentation was delivered during 2010 for the Centrica offshore workforce, covering all staff shifts & all contractors shifts in order to reassure people how safe flying in helicopters is. The presentations went down very well within the Centrica organisation. Simon Wills, Centrica's MD, gave his permission to forward this presentation to Step Change in Safety, so we hope people find it useful.
