On Thursday 19th March, 70 industry leaders gathered at the AECC for their annual Safety Leadership Day. The focus of this year’s event was on the launch of the Minimum Industry Safety Training (MIST) standard & the commitment of the industry to safety during the current downturn in activity. Feedback from the 5 workgroups set the scenes for discussions on Step Change communication and delivery in 2009.
- Progress review– the Step Change Leadership Team workgroups will share what they achieved in 2008 and what is planned for 2009
- Communication improvements – to explore the question about how Step Change should handle the communication via the Focal Points to the MDs
- Delivery improvements– to explore the issue of Step Change delivery, is it working, is there too much / too little prescription, how can it be improved?
- Environment of the industry – to raise the issue of the impact of falling oil prices and global recession on safety focus; leadership responsibilities will not allow the current economic pressures to affect the improving safety performance
