The Search Begins for Oil and Gas Safety Innovators
Nominations are open for the 2012 UK Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards. This year, the Industry Safety Awards promises to be bigger and better than ever before, with the addition of a new cash prize category and a new venue to cater for the increase in demand.
The annual safety showcase event, principally sponsored by Maersk Oil UK, will once again pay tribute to the most safety conscious workers and companies in the UK’s offshore industry.
Now in their third year, the Industry Safety Awards have added a new prize category – the Ideas in Safety Prize – with £5,000 on offer to the winner. The first ‘ideas for safety’ prize will be given to a person or team, working offshore, in recognition of their resourcefulness and creativity in developing and proving an original idea to improve safety in the workplace on a chosen theme.
The theme for the 2012 prize is around original ideas for reducing hydrocarbon releases.
The other categories now open for nomination pay tribute to safety leadership, honour both the top safety representatives and the up and coming professionals and recognise notable preventative safety actions as well as safety innovation in companies.
The winners will be presented with their awards at the safety awards lunch at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on 18 April 2012.
In addition, a special award will be presented on the day for Services to Safety, chosen by Step Change in Safety’s co-chairs Martin Ellins and Ken Robertson. This award recognises an outstanding contribution towards Step Change in Safety’s vision to make the UK the safest place to work in the worldwide oil and gas industry.
“Oil & Gas UK’s health and safety director, Robert Paterson, said: “I’m very excited to say that this year will be the biggest yet for the Industry Safety Awards. These awards attract the very highest calibre of entry from all walks of life and from right across the oil and gas industry.
“We’ve added a new cash prize to recognise the most creative people among the offshore workforce who use their ingenuity to come up with new and practical ideas to improve safety.
“Nominations close on 10 February so I urge prospective entrants to submit their nominations as soon as possible.”
Submitting a nomination or booking a place at the event can done via the Oil & Gas UK website.
