Radiator Damage

Radiator Damage

Description of Incident

During an overhaul of two radiator cooled power generation engines, radiator damage was identified. On initial view (visual inspection), the radiators looked fine and in decent condition.

On further inspection (physical inspection), the fins were found to be extremely corroded and flaked away when touched. Damage to a radiator can impact its cooling ability.

If anything makes contact with the fins during use, further damaging them, it could lead to the engine overheating and a host of associated issues.

Good Practice Guidance

It is recommended radiators are checked annually (usually when your engine is serviced) - to catch any defects before they lead to knock-on issues.
