Hi ,

Welcome to the June 2021 Step Change in Safety News Bulletin.

This month sees the rounding-up of our Annual Themes Q2 topic reinforcing awareness and techniques around safe lifting operations and preventing falling objects in order to reduce the potential for incidents in these areas. While lifting operation incidents are not the most frequent, they can account for some of the most serious injuries in our industry. Our latest sub-topic – mechanical lifting - is particularly topical due to the increase in crane lifts associated with TAR activities, the need for temporary equipment and containerised tool stores.

We have also seen a good uptake of our TAR/shutdown season resources. With the 2021 shutdown season commencing last month, Step Change in Safety's OIM network identified the season as a period of concern due to the impact of COVID-19.

In July, we will commence with our Q3 topic – Major Accident Hazard Understanding – and we shall be reinforcing the need for control of work, especially during reinstatement, and where multiple system work fronts have been carried out.
