Personal health is the wellness of a person, including both the physical and mental health.

Personal health can be improved by many factors including eating a healthy diet (less salt, sugar and harmful fats), being active, not smoking or drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, getting medical checks such as blood pressure and routine cancer screening, and looking after your mental health. Mental health has become the leading reason for employees accessing occupational health services.

Mental health used to be a taboo subject, but over recent years has become ever more topical, with organisations becoming increasingly aware of their responsibilities to their employees. In 2021, Step Change in Safety created Mental Health Awareness Guidance to accompany five specially commissioned films.
